Grow

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the lawb]">[b] of the Lordand on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.

- Psalm 1:1-3

A tree is dependent upon moisture and nutrients that can be picked up by its roots and absorbed. Without those life-sustaining nutrients, the plant will wither and die. The verses above compare a person who is rooted in God's Word to a plant that is thriving in its nutrients. This comparison is a picture of growth.

Main Street Presbyterian Church seeks to nurture a delight in God's glory for believers through immersion in God's Word. Our worship is built around around strong, systematic, expository preaching. Our age-graded Sunday School program and catechism preparation lay a rich foundation in the lives of our children. Age and peer group Sunday School options for youth and adults, continue to build upon that foundation. Small group discipleship studies provide opportunities for mentoring from our elders and other mature believers.

Opportunities to pray for one another in private and in group settings encourage growth in prayer. Our annual mission emphasis always includes a particular season of prayer for missions. We maintain a prayer list of those facing medical issues and other struggles of life. A prayer group meets every Thursday at noon. A growing believer is always a praying one.

The nurture and encouragement that comes from the fellowship of other believers and service to the kingdom is key to growth. As we learn the truth we must have the opportunity to live out the truth. In the company of believers, there is safety. We can learn, apply, fail, seek, and receive forgiveness and move forward.

We believe it is vital to strive to provide a nurturing environment conducive to the growth and development of the lives of our people.
